Contrasts began for Corey Stein with her birth in Los Angeles to a Jewish father from New York and a Tlingit mother from Alaska. Creative expression drove her to earn her MFA from CalArts. Her motivations include quirky little moments to grand miracles in nature, vibrant colors to colorful people. Environmental observations and connections, unanticipated juxtapositions, contrasts, and word plays define her art, surprise the audience, and add humor. Using traditional Native American art forms, she expresses new ideas. In our changing society, Corey feels the responsibility to draw audiences together into new discussions, provoke inquiry, educate, and entertain.
